Do I need to leave my current vet practice?

No. Home Vet Nurse doesn't replace your vet practice, so there's no need to leave it. Where necessary, we simply share our notes with your vet through Pro Nurse, our own purpose-built veterinary management system, so your vet stays in the loop.

What if my pet needs to see a vet during a visit?

Home Vet Nurse is a nursing service, not a replacement for veterinary diagnosis or emergency care. If our nurse spots anything that needs a vet's attention, they'll tell you straight away and help you get seen quickly, either at your own practice or an out of hours emergency clinic.

How much does a visit cost?

Prices vary by service and start from £10. The full price list for every service is on the Services & Pricing page.

What areas do you cover?

Much of Glasgow and the surrounding area is covered free of charge, with a small travel surcharge further out. Check your postcode on the homepage coverage checker for an instant answer.

Do you treat cats and other pets, or just dogs?

Yes. Home Vet Nurse looks after cats and small furries such as rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as dogs. See the full range of services for what's available for each.

Are your nurses qualified and insured?

Yes. Our nurses are RCVS-registered veterinary nurses. Our Nursing Director, Katie Lunn, has 16 years of experience across small animal practice and referral hospitals, and is fully insured and DBS checked.

How do I book a visit?

Use the live booking calendar on the homepage to book an instant slot, or get in touch by email, phone or WhatsApp and we will confirm by hand, usually within an hour.

Do I need to be at home during the visit?

Yes. The pet's owner needs to be at home for every visit, with one exception: our pet check-in visits can go ahead while you're away.

How do I pay?

Payment is accepted by cash, bank transfer or all major credit and debit cards, including contactless and chip and PIN.

What is your cancellation policy?

A 24 hour cancellation policy applies. We reserve the right to ask for prepayment if the policy isn't adhered to.

What's included in the Gold and Silver Packs?

The Gold Pack is £47 for about an hour and covers a nail trim, ear cleaning and routine gland expression. The Silver Pack is £30 for about 40 minutes and covers a nail trim and ear cleaning. Both are done in one calm visit at home, and cost less than booking the same services separately. See the Pamper packs for more detail.

What is the Anxious pet companion visit?

It's for pets who find the vet clinic itself the hardest part. Our nurse visits your home first to prepare and settle your pet, then accompanies you and your pet to your vet clinic appointment. It starts from £35, depending on how much preparation and support is needed.

Do you offer full grooming?

No. Home Vet Nurse offers basic hygiene grooming, not cosmetic grooming: hygienic trims, brushing, medical shaving and dematting. It's aimed at pets recovering from surgery and pets who can't visit a regular groomer because of age, anxiety, mobility issues or a medical condition. See the grooming services for details.

Can your nurses give my pet its medication or injections?

Yes. Our nurses can give vet-prescribed medication and injections, including insulin, Librela and Solensia, on the schedule your vet has set.

Do you offer weekend visits?

Yes. Saturday morning visits are available, between 9am and 12pm. The live booking calendar shows what's free.

Do you offer out of hours appointments?

Home Vet Nurse is not an out of hours service. All of our services are non-emergency and are appropriate for our opening hours. However, upon request, and if available, we may attend an appointment outside of our opening hours. If we do, a £20 out of hours fee is added to the price of the service. We will only offer a visit outside opening hours if and when available, so if your pet is unwell or injured and needs urgent care, please contact your vet or an emergency out of hours clinic straight away.

Do you sell supplements?

Yes. Home Vet Nurse is an authorised Nutravet stockist, so we can supply the veterinary grade range that's only available through vet clinics and Home Vet Nurse. It includes support for calming, dental health, digestion and joints. Order during your home visit, or send a message and we will help you choose the right product and size for your pet. Supplements are not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment, so if your pet is unwell please speak to your vet.

What is Pet laser therapy, and is it safe?

It's a medical grade, drug free treatment that eases pain and speeds up healing, often used for arthritis, stiff joints and recovery after surgery or injury. Our Nursing Director, Katie Lunn, is a certified Pet laser therapist, accredited to use class 3b and 4 lasers on small animals. See the Pet laser therapy section for more detail.
